Saferinternet Connection Wizard Instructions for Windows 98


Go to your "Start Menu".

Go to "Programs".

Go to "Internet Explorer". If you do not see Internet Explorer in your Programs menu, then go to your "Accessories" menu, then go to "Internet Tools".

Go to the "Connection Wizard".

You are then prompted with a menu that gives you three options. Put a dot by the one that says: "I have an existing Internet account through my phone line or local area network (LAN). Help me setup my computer to connect to this Internet account." -and then click "Next".

(NOTE: Some versions of Windows 98 may have "I want to set up my Internet connection manually..." as the 3rd option. If so select that option.)



Next, you are prompted with a menu that gives you two options. Put a dot by the one that says: "Select this option if you are accessing the Internet using an Internet service provider or local area network (LAN)."-and then click "Next".



You are prompted with the title "Set Up Your Internet Connection". You are asked what method do you want to use to connect to the Internet. Put a dot by the one that says: "Connect using my phone line". -and then click next



A window may appear and ask you to select your modem. Just choose your modem from the list.-and then click next. If this window does not appear proceed to the next step.

Once you have selected your modem, your are asked to either create a new dial-up connection, or use an existing dial-up connection. Put a dot by the one that says: "Create a new dial-up connection."-and then click "Next".



In the Phone Number window, uncheck the box that says: "Dial using the area code and country code". Then, type in "623-8930" in the "Telephone number" field and click "Next".

 

Be sure to us a dial-up number that is local for you. Leave the area code blank.

In the User Name field, type in the login name with @gurulink.com at the end (username@gurulink.com) that you chose (This is the first part of your e-mail address. IE: If your e-mail address is "username@saferinternet.com" then your login name is "user".) In the Password field, type in the password that you chose -and then click "Next".



If is asks you if you would like to view the advanced settings for this connection select "No" -and then click "Next" two times.



Now here is the part where you set up your e-mail. Put a dot by the one that says: "Yes" to "Create an internet mail account" -and then click "Next".



Be sure that the dot is by the one that says: "Create a new Internet mail account" -and then click "Next".

In the "Your Name" window, just type in your name that you want to appear in the from field of the out going message. For example: John Smith -and then click "Next".



In the field that asks you to type in your e-mail address, you simply type in your e-mail address (IE: yourlogin@saferinternet.com) -and then click "Next".



For the Incoming Mail Server enter "mail.saferinternet.com".
For the Outgoing Mail Server enter "smtp.saferinternet.com"
-and then click "Next".



This is the Internet Mail Login window, type in your "Login name" and your "Password" -and then click "Next".



This is the Friendly Name window. Click "Next" to accept the default values.



Set Up Your Internet News Account is the next step. Put the dot by the one that says "Yes" -and then click "Next".



Internet News Account. Put the dot by the one that says "Create a new Internet News account" -and then click "Next".

In this window, just put your name in the field, -and then click "Next".

Internet News Email Address is the next window. Just type in your Email address. -and then click "Next".

This window wants the name of the Internet News Server. In the field, just type in "news.saferinternet.com" -and then click "Next".

Then click "Next".

Click "No" on Internet Directory Service.



Then click "Finish" to complete configuration.
